Jessie Wei-Hsuan Chen is originally from the small island of Taiwan, where she discovered her love for art, history, language, culture, and the natural world. In search of combining all her passions into one, or two, disciplines, she studied illustration and art history at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) in Savannah, Georgia, USA. She currently lives in the Netherlands to continue her academic training with the research master program Art History of the Low Countries at Utrecht University and to seek further artistic inspirations.

Jessie’s illustrations reflect her interests in natural history, hand lettering, and storytelling. Most of Jessie’s works are executed in watercolor, although she sometimes incorporates mixed media for her three-dimensional works.

While Jessie specializes in early modern (fifteenth- to eighteenth-centuries) art and science, the inspirations for her illustrations really come from her observation of the small but wonderful things in life. To learn more about Jessie's research in art history and read a sample of her writing, please visit here. More recent writings will be available soon.

When she is not researching, writing, or creating, Jessie would be traveling, visiting gardens, libraries, and museums, or filing documents.
